“Inauguration of a Savage”

I was always a “once bitten, and twice shy” kind of nigga. I learned to evaluate my negative past into positive realities. Like Jay-Z said: “I will not lose, for even in defeat, there's a valuable lesson learned, so it evens up for me.” My life hasn't been easy but, for every struggle I learned to develop into a beast in life and in music. Growing up in Jackson, MS and bouncing around from 'hood to 'hood with mom and grandma I learned how to “walk before I could crawl” in my world.

I’ve loved music since before I could talk and watching TV seeing Tupac and Biggie were a major influence for me to aspire to greater things than I saw outside of my window on a daily basis. By twelve years old I started listening to : 8 Ball and MJG, No Limit, Cash Money, Biggie, and Tupac with a renewed since of spirit. Telling myself: “One day you’re gonna be like them. Influence the world and change your community.” Practicing on my God-given gift for puns, progressed into eventually mimicking those influential artists on my Cd's and recording myself for the praise of my mother and grandmother. Who knew years later that my dreams of being in the spot light would become a proficient reality.

By 2001, I’m playing in the percussion section at Lanier High School. This was truly one of my life’s many accomplishments. It was also how I learned to read music. People think a rapper and an artist are the same, unfortunately, they are always mistaken to be shadow images of each other. Even at the early age of 15 years old I knew that being an artist meant developing yourself as an individual with a deep passion and comprehension for music, unlike a rapper who just does what is popular for the youth and those that are still “asleep.” My own style has progressed into influences of “Twista” and now I’m coming into my own. At 16 years old I recorded my first official single at the Metrocenter Mall Studio for $45, I had no idea that the engineer, J. Skills (R.I.P.), founder of A.N.B.O.S. would play an integral role in helping me with my style. After my studio session he pulled me to the side to let me know how good he thought I was, and how far he thought I would go in the music industry. Only if I could draw my audience into my story of pain and struggle.

I also developed my own group called: “Boys In Black” (aka B.I.B.) with Lt. Zero, Sgt. Bone, and myself, known then as “Solja Boi.” We were promoting ourselves with hats, shirts, hustling, and word of mouth. My music was a part of me and “Solja Boi” had burst onto the scene like a “phoenix from the ashes.” My words are catching fire and people are beginning to take notice of my passion. Nothing will deter me from my goals.

On a fateful day while working for “City Wide Carpet Cleaners” in Flowood, MS I met a man named “Trigga C” from the Delta. This man became my mentor, work partner, friend, big brother/father figure. “Trigga C” not only taught me the “Five Attributes of a Great Artist” which are: Delivery, Style, Knowledge, Art, and Personality, but, he also showed a genuine interest in me. He helped me develop as a man and then an artist in life. I didn’t know that “Trigga C” was also a locally know rapper with “Water Front Records” based in TX. He taught me the ethics of being an artist and he me realize that “in order to grab the attention of the people one has to reflect what they project.” It’s one thing to act like something you’re not, and another to help the audience sift through the rubble to see where you’ve been as an artist.”

Along this path there have been some truly amazing people and peers that I will always credit for making me better and challenging me. People like: Chamber, who recruited me for his first label “Westside Ent.” now “Southern Dynasty Ent.”, J. Skills (Founder of A.N.B.O.S.), Smurff, Eric Myers (current manager and newly appointed General Manager for “Savage Life Ent.” MS Chapter/SupaUnit), Boney Toni, Buzz Lightyear (aka Souf Youngin), Chizzer, and RaChill (George Town Mafia).

My most memorable performance to date was in Oct. 2016. My style, delivery, flow, puns, real life scenarios, and aggression are at its peak. Flashes of my stepfather's verbal, drug, and alcohol abuse, having an absentee father and no family support as I’ve gotten engrossed in this lifestyle, the sudden death of my mother in 2014 at age 43 of gastric cancer, the death of my grandmother in 2016 of breast cancer, recurrent homelessness, and dropping out of high school to care for my first son and the achievements of getting my G.E.D., and lastly, looking at a 30 year prison sentence for being wrongly accused all seem to be tantamount at this point… I’m in Atlanta, GA at the “Performance Factory” hosted by Pam, and featuring artists from the “Respect My Grind Tour” like: BGG, Big Mike, Wood, L Dot, Eastside Black, Carrell Jenkins (Manager), Chevy Broham, and myself now known as “Datboi Sippi.”

Struggle doesn’t break me, it makes me into the artist that I am today with Savage Life Ent./SupaUnit in Jackson, MS. I have been blessed on this journey as an artist and I have had the steady and loyal support of Eric Myers (Manager) and Carrell Jenkins (Road Manager), who support, curse, and have my best interest at heart at ALL times. I’ve performed at the 2nd Annual Showcase at the “Performance Factory” in Atlanta, GA again this year with the support of my wife and my team it would not have been possible. I do numerous pop-up shows around Jackson, NiteLyfe and Zack Knight always shows me love, and the best is yet to come. Trials and tribulations either break a man or make him stronger. I’m destined to not only break down the stereotypes of my generation but, to lead the movement of a genre to new planes of reality.
