I Go by the name Shawn Gates born on the east side Cleveland,OH where I was a ward of the state until the age of 18 moving around from place to place family to family until my uncle took me in I started rapping at the age of 9 to escape feeling abandoned I used Music as my crutch I only did freestyles until I turned 16 that’s when I started writing music after high school I attended Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Al and that’s when I got picked up by SESAC as a song writer and publisher,
I dropped my first mixtape in 2014 which was dedicated to a woman I loved very much who had passed away. I followed my first release with two more mixtapes in the last three years. I’ve fought my way to get to the point. I'll never given up even when I feel like the universe is giving up on me....I AM SHAWN GATES, I AM ROYALTY!! -The Renaissance Factory
